Visit From Eva Levitt

On February 5th, a Holocaust survivor came to speak with the 6th and 7th-grade students of SMS. The Holocaust survivor’s name is Eva Levitt, and she’s coming from right here in Allentown. She was motivated to visit based on letters that 6th-grade students wrote to her! Both 6th and 7th graders have learned all about the Holocaust, and they are excited to have someone who actually experienced this historic event talk to them about it. Eva Levitt was one of six children in her family to survive in Humenne, Slovakia. Eva was an infant when this happened, but she still remembers it vividly. Eva’s entire family was taken and put in concentration camps. Only Eva and her mother were left unharmed. She spent the entire war moving from shelter to shelter, never staying in the same place twice. After the war, Eva and her mother would wait at the train station every day, waiting for her father. It was a valuable experience and 6th graders learned how impactful their writing can be!
