Holocaust Survivors

The 6th graders of Salisbury Middle School have been reading “Refugee” by Alan Gratz. In the book, there are three main characters: Josef, Isabel, and Mahmoud. They each went through a tough period in their life as refugees fleeing their country. That got us wondering what happens if we actually met a survivor! During the week of November 23rd, students had  chance to meet a Uganda refugee and write letters to Holocaust survivors. The letters will be sent out to Judah Samet and Eva Levett (both survivors of the Holocaust). We are hoping we can meet one of the Holocaust survivors as well. It is a great opportunity to talk to someone from our past and learn about what they experienced; it needs to be shared with the world to prevent common eras like this from happening. It’s been a valuable experience students are sure to remember!
